The Port of Savannah closed fiscal year 2026 with a strong June, handling 483,684 twenty-foot equivalent container units—an 18% increase from June 2025. Georgia Ports Authority also highlighted new inland rail capacity and major roadway improvements designed to move freight more efficiently and reduce truck traffic in Savannah-area neighborhoods.

Gov. Kemp: Georgia Ports Mark Mega Rail Milestone

Governor Brian P. Kemp today announced that the Georgia Ports Authority has completed and is now operating the second set of nine new rail tracks for a total of 18 tracks at its Mason Mega Rail Terminal. The expansion immediately increases intermodal capacity to and from the Port of Savannah by more than 30 percent.

GPA Details Capacity, Operations Expansion

At the Georgia Foreign Trade Conference (GFTC), the Georgia Ports Authority released fiscal year to date numbers (July -March) showing record volumes of 3.9 million twenty-foot equivalent container units, an increase of 15 percent, and detailed a plan that expedites completion of more than 1.4 million additional TEUs of annual capacity.

Savannah Maintaining Record Pace for September

After the Georgia Ports Authority handled all-time record volumes in the month of August, Griff Lynch, executive director for the GPA, reported to the Board of Directors today that the Port of Savannah is on track to achieve a monthly record for September.
