Gentlemen:

On behalf of The Savannah Traffic Club, I would like to take this opportunity to express the need to deepen the Savannah River by an additional five (5) feet at mean low water.  This additional depth is crucial for the movement of vital exports from and needed imports to the U.S. in the new larger container ships.

We must be competitive with the rest of the world.  Goods from the Western part of the hemisphere passing through the Panama Canal  would likely not call at the Port of Savannah as delays waiting on the tidal change will be very costly, and  will be passed on to the ultimate consumer   Similarly,  we would  have this problem with goods being exported and imported from countries to our East.

 We hope that you will grant  this project's final approval, so  the economic benefits and growth to our country is realized.
