       From the President

Hello North America.  Everyone good?  There's a lot going on with TCI and our Clubs.  Let's get started.

To start with the 2014 Scholarship applications are availability on the web site.  Go to and click on the “Scholarship” link and fill out the application and send to the address listed on the application.  Deadline is May 31, 2014. (Additional information below)

Our friends at the Denver Transportation Club are working very hard to put together the 2014 TCI Conference on September 18-19, 2014. The event center will be the Magnolia Hotel in downtown Denver where we can access the light rail system out the front door and experience all that the downtown area has to offer. We will tour the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Transportation Management Center in Golden, we will hear about the Fastracks (light rail system) expansion in the region and tour the redevelopment of Union Station in downtown Denver, as well as hear a presentation on SpacePort Colorado. We will have a panel discussion with shippers such as Thule, Johns Manville, EchoStar and Cabela’s. New Belgium Brewing Co will talk about their supply chain and logistics operations. They are still working on a few other items, including evening entertainment (NASCAR, Colorado Rockies ballgame have been mentioned) and a Saturday trip to Estes Park, CO and Rocky Mountain National Park.  Stay up to date via the website at

Please plan on attending.

Please remember to keep posting your events on our LinkedIn and Facebook pages.  A lot of people in our industry travel and look for networking events to attend.  As an example if you're in or around Atlanta next week please plan on attending the Transportation Club of Atlanta's Annual Dinner on March 12th.  I'm very honored to be attending and installing their incoming Officers.  Go to their website for details  I travel a lot and would really like to visit as many Clubs as possible. So please let me know any upcoming events you might have and I'll try to make it work.

Enjoy your March and contact me with any questions.

Transportation Education

According to the American Transportation Research Institute (the research arm of the American Trucking Association), here are the top ten issues affecting the trucking industry.  Interesting to note that the top 4 issues have been the same for the past 3 years (although the order has somewhat changed).   As the trucking industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see what the future holds.

2013 Issues

2. CSA
3. Driver Shortage
4. Economy
5. Electronic Logging Mandate
6. Truck Parking
7. Driver Retention
8. Fuel Supply/Fuel Prices
9. Infrastructure/Congestion/Funding
10. Driver Health/Wellness

If you want additional topics to be covered, please send an e-mail to and he will cover other transportation issues.
